The horror imagery present in Home Sweet Home has its roots in Thai mythology, and those fingerprints are everywhere in the game. The interesting thing about Home Sweet Home is that, as a game, it coasts by with a minimum level of competency. There are all sorts of problems with the mechanics in Home Sweet Home that prevent it from being a classic. But the things that the game does well will live on in my memory long after the missteps that threatened to ruin the scary fun.
An intriguing horror experience with some neat ideas, but it doesn’t seem to have the muscle to make those ideas work as well as they could. As she constantly slides the box cutter up and down, the noise reverberates throughout the area and put a chill in my spine every time. Doors will randomly close or open when you pass by them, items will move subtly in a dark room, and even a giant frickin’ Attack on Titan wannabe will smash the house suddenly. "Home Sweet Home is one of the most intense PlayStation VR compatible horror games released to date, and it’s ready to take you on an experience you’ll never forget."
Reviews
The game nonetheless does its best to keep players off balance, as the environments often shift and change around the player as you move through them. In a move that I recognized from Layers of Fear (another recent scare-fest), floorplans often rearrange themselves behind the player. The act of being engaged in the action prevents me from entering the trance-like state that allows for true frights. I have often enjoyed scary games because I enjoy horror fiction and imagery, but I haven’t often found games to be actually frightening.
Beyond exploring and solving puzzles, the bulk of the gameplay involves playing hide and seek with the various spooks and ghosts that stalk Tim. There is no combat to speak of in Home Sweet Home, with Tim turning tail and hiding every time he sees a spirit. Home Sweet Home is a great PSVR game and a good regular title.

The sounds, ambiance, creature designs, and the mystery in which Tim finds himself were certainly well crafted. What’s more are the collectibles you can pick up on your journey. Most will be incredibly easy to find, but that may have been the point. They paint a picture of sanity lost and people completely losing their minds in similar situations. The first encounter with a spirit in Home Sweet Home will likely lead to many players experiencing repeated deaths, over and over again, until they finally figure out the correct steps to take to survive. After a long night filled with mourning and sorrow over the recent disappearance of his wife, Tim awakens to find himself alone in a strange, dilapidated building instead of the comfort of his own home. Confused, he must avoid deadly spirits, solve perplexing puzzles, and unveil sinister secrets while desperately searching for his wife and a way out.
Home Sweet Home Review Summary
To make a comparison,Home Sweet Home reminds me ofAlien Isolation somewhat, but a much more truncated version that highlights its issues more as the player doesn’t get room to breathe and get absorbed into the fiction. The game takes the time to explain the lore that comes into play through environmental storytelling. Of particular interest and importance is the legend of the haunting “Preta”, a restless and vengeful spirit that is forever hungry and thirsty. The entire game is steeped in Thai imagery, from the newspaper clippings to the graffiti on the walls, and the unique setting adds to the sense of displacement and disorientation for western players.

It wasn't an ending at all frankly, the game just stopped when it was about to get it's ending. I had to complete the game without VR cuz of constant crashes and it felt so much better but still bad game. While Home Sweet Home doesn't bring anything new to the table for first person horror puzzlers, it does stand out with the inclusion of Thai horror folklore which is truly terrifying. It's let down with a couple of bugs but it's not a bad way to spend a few hours.
In one night, after suffering from the sorrow for a long time, he woke up in an unknown place instead of his house. While trying to escape from this place, he was hunted by a rancorous female spirit. Some dark sinister secret is hidden inside this house, and it won’t be a place of happiness as it used to be any longer. "For the first time ever, I was so shaken by a horror game that I had to pause and set the controller down." Through the use of the insidious score, tension and suspense grip the player through the entire game, even in extended areas that contain no enemies.

As he explores his surroundings, Tim quickly realizes that he has left the world of logic and reason behind, as he soon finds himself pursued through a nightmare landscape by vengeful spirits. To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera are required to experience these features.
Ultimately Home Sweet Home is an intriguing horror experience with some neat ideas, but it doesn’t seem to have the muscle to make those ideas work as well as they could. It’s a short, concise experience, but it’s often interrupted by frustrating trial and error challenges that interrupt the flow with frequent checkpoint loading and rewatching cutscenes. VR mode also feels half-baked, is uncomfortable to play at times, and makes those challenging moments even more cumbersome to deal with.

Beneath the promising concept, Home Sweet Home is as generic and bare bones as it gets for horror titles on PlayStation 4. Playing it with PSVR might be a game-changer, but without it, expect a mediocre and pedestrian first-person adventure. With only a few cheap jump-scares and some clever space twisting, this is only for people who are desperate for some scares. However, half the time there will be an imminent threat to Tim’s life in the areas you need to search who may or may not have some dodgy A.I. This makes certain encounters a little frustrating and left me exasperated when trying to find a solution a few times.
Home Sweet Home is an around 4 and a half hour long first person survival horror game where you play as Tim in search of his wife who has disappeared.. This is one of the first horror games I have ever played. Me an my friend just wanted to play a good horror game to get scared and this game did the trick. REALLY hope there is a second one or theending was pointless.
